Step 5: Discussion

How do students make meaning from the results of their experimental work?

  • Class-wide discussion about what the outcome of the experiment is
  •  Individual student explanations and observations are compared and confirmed or contested against the insights and assistive support of the entire group
  • Students construct their ideas via peer discussion, argumentation, and negotiation
  • Students offer claims along with supporting evidence
  • Students suggest ideas to be included in reflections
  • Instructor facilitates but does not lead the discussion
